In this 6ft X 2ft oil on canvas, the coil is a symbol for security. It appears to be liberating itself from its familiar sanctuary of order and planned symmetry and opting to merge, instead, out towards a loose abstract landscape. As the coils ventures into the unmethodical it seams to strengthen the exit-ways’ structure as it passes through. On the stage of disarray the coil (security) introduces uniformity and bridges the gap between chaos and order.
In this series called “Skin Beep” I have painted flesh toned shapes over layers of clear resin. The shapes of paint cast shadows on the surface below them. The viewer can voyeuristically peek through select “key hole” like areas where there is no paint, only clear resin, and see the shadows breathing below. The painted silhouettes seem to float above their foundation. These pieces also have iridescent paint that appears either white, pink or green, or disappears completely as the viewers’ perspective changes. They seem alive, gasping, pulsating and changing color with the slightest tilt of the head. These radical transformations in form make the work almost impossible to photograph so I have included a video (also unrealistic) to try to explain how these work. If you view the video you can see that the surfaces reflect a lot of light and has peeks and dimples. These serrations create prisms that deviate and disperse light inward. You REALLY have to see them in person to get the full effect.
Oh, that reminds me, it has been brought to my attention that you guys have no way of emailing me through this blog.
